We Are Here To Help
We believe suicides are a tragic loss of life and many suicides in men are preventable. We want to create a model that enables communities to encourage men to talk freely about their concerns, reduce isolation and de-stigmatise mental health problems.
You Are Not Alone
We are here for you and ready to listen and help
From the moment you get in touch, support is offered to you. We provide a total wrap-around support service, giving you a buddy for you to lean on when your feeling crap, counselling on a weekly basis as well as offering workshops to help you get through these rough times.
There are so many different reasons for poor mental health and the need for help.
- Past events causing depression and worrying thoughts now.
- Work pressure and money problems
- Fertility issues.
- Eating disorders.
- Relationship and family troubles.
- Lack of support with troubled children.
- Appearance issues and masculinity.
- Panic attacks and anxiety.
- Isolation, rejection, and feelings of being unloved.
- Domestic abuse.
These are just a few of the issues men are facing on a day to day basis and are not talking about. Don’t face it alone – we are here to listen and help you.
How we help you
There are lots of ways in which we can help you
24x7 Helpline
Our Helpline is here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for whenever you need support.
Buddies and Keyworkers
At ‘HiS’, we are big on peer-led support. Therefore, we have introduced our ‘Buddy’ system. We try hard to match up hobbies and interests so you can relate to your buddy and most of our buddies have lived-in experience so they know the score. This method assists in recovery, builds self-esteem and makes you feel supported at all times.
Our Counsellors
We vet our counsellors to ensure they are the right person for you. There are no time scales or budget in your recovery, all counsellors know they will help you until you feel empowered enough to deal with your mental health. Once you have left our service our door is always open for you to come back whenever you need us. We will also check in with you from time to as you are always part of the HiS family
Holistic Therapies
We advocate a holistic approach when offering support. We don’t just focus on the mind but on the body as well, offering holistic and allied therapies too. We can even help with a Wellbeing App!
Events and Workshops
We run workshops and events to support you – well-being courses and workshops, community events as well as personal development and even residential workshops
Volunteers
Our services are delivered by a team of volunteers. Aside from our Buddies and Counsellors, we have fitness instructors, teachers, holistic therapists, physio, osteopaths, fundraisers and office staff to name but a few!
What Makes Us Different
Help without limits
Every penny
We are a non-profit charity and every penny goes into supporting men in the south-east of England that are struggling with their mental health or suicidal thoughts.
No limits
We are a unique service as we provide no time scale or budget with your individually tailored care needs.
Fun
Our workshops have been tailored around men, from bushcraft to cooking courses. Please check out our services as there will be something for everyone to take part in.
Just for men
We have decided to solely be a charity for MEN as we found that resources for men were very limited. It was shocking to see the high death toll in men and the sparse support out there for men. Mental health support is not one size fits all. The reasons for men’s mental ill-health are very different from women’s, therefore HiS was created.
We've been there
We have extensive knowledge with the issues you are facing as the majority of our team have lived experience with mental ill-health; our buddies and counsellors are men that have been affected by mental ill-health and have been in the trenches and come out the other side with a desire to help others in similar situations. This lived experience is valuable and cannot be taught.
Prevention focus
We offer workplace packages that are unique in helping companies to reduce stress and mental ill-health, to help employers to support and destigmatise mental health in the workplace. Every penny made from this service goes back into HiS Charity and back to our men.
Client Testimonies
I battled with depression and anxiety for ten long years, I wish I had access to HiS men’s mental health and prevention of suicide. What an amazing service they offer with that added personal tailored touch for men
HiS helped so much for getting things off my chest. I ended up speaking with 4 people and all of them were so caring and genuine and they helped a lot. They were a big huge, huge help. Whatever you are doing, it is certainly working. I cannot thank you enough. Every person just listened and had an answer for every question I asked. The worst part was being isolated by Corona Virus. If it wasn’t for HiS during Covid, I don’t know what I would’ve done. I went into some deep places and HiS got me through in such a short time. The 1st two weeks were horrendous. I would recommend it for every person. I feel so happy just because you called today. I was feeling sad and I haven’t spoken to anyone. You’ve brought a tear to my eyes. I’ve finished my counselling and you are still phoning me. I cannot express how you got me out of a hole and you’re still there and I think it’s marvellous!
